<h1>Electronic Filing of TDS/TCS Expanded to Include More Deductors u/s 44AB; Penalties for Non-Compliance Apply.</h1> The Income-tax Rules, 1962 have been amended to expand the requirement for electronic filing of quarterly statements of tax deduction/collection at source (TDS/TCS). Previously mandated only for government offices and companies, the rules now include deductors/collectors who must have audited accounts under section 44AB of the Income-tax Act, or those with more than fifty records in any quarter of the previous financial year. Non-compliance will incur a penalty of Rs.100 per day. This amendment, effective from September 1, 2007, requires electronic filing for the quarter ending September 30, 2007.
