2014 Amendments to EOU Scheme: Export Prohibited Goods, Duty Concessions, Excise Exemptions, and Safeguard Duty on Inputs
In 2014, significant amendments were made to the 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) Scheme. The Foreign Trade Policy was revised to permit EOUs to export prohibited goods with Board of Approval permission, provided raw materials are imported. Duty concessions for goods sold by EOUs in the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) were updated to exempt Education Cess and Secondary & Higher Education Cess. Full excise duty exemption was granted for reprocessed plastic materials cleared into the DTA. Additionally, the Customs Tariff Act was amended to impose Safeguard duty on inputs imported by EOUs without such duty, when cleared into the DTA.
