Electronic record-keeping permitted for excise records, subject to monthly printouts, backups and production on official demand.
Electronic maintenance of excise records is permitted without prior permission, provided records are electronically readable, stored with backups, and the Range office records that electronic maintenance is used. Monthly printouts must be taken and kept in bound folders; records and backups must be preserved for the statutory period and produced in hard copy and/or electronic form on demand. Authorities may prohibit electronic maintenance if the facility is misused or access is not provided. (AI Summary)

Sir,

My query is whether we can fulfill the requirements of Excise w.r.t. RG1 register, if we maintain it in soft copy in our database/ERP system.

OR it is mandatory to keep it in hard in the Format prescribed.
