Starting New Unit in Excisable Premises Requires Updating Registration; Review Rule 6 of CENVAT Credit Rules 2004. A user inquired about starting a new company within an existing excisable premises, specifically whether a new unit exempt from excise duty can be established within a building already housing an excisable unit. The response advised that production of a new excisable commodity is possible within the same premises, provided an application is made to update the existing registration certificate. Additionally, the user was advised to review the relevant provisions under Rule 6 of the CENVAT Credit Rules, 2004, due to the coexistence of excisable and exempted products. (AI Summary)
