Adjusting Excess TDS: Seek CBDT Approval, Use Previous Challan Date if Within Quarter, Submit Detailed Letter to Department. A user inquired about adjusting excess TDS deducted in the first quarter against the liability in the second quarter and how to handle this in the e-TDS return given the challan number and payment date precede the deduction date. One respondent suggested addressing the issue with the CBDT and obtaining written approval from the ITO for adjustment. Another shared a similar experience, advising to take the benefit and submit a detailed letter to the department. A third respondent mentioned it is possible to use a previous challan date, provided the deduction date is within the quarter. (AI Summary)
