Tax benefit for co-borrower under Joint Home loan

Hari Iyer

Dear Sir

I have jointly acquired a flat through a joint home loan with my wife as a co-borrower.She is also co-owner of the flat. However, the entire EMI is serviced through my savings account. My query is

Q1. Whether we can claim tax benefit separately for the registration and stamp duty ?

Q2.Since EMI is deducted from my account? whether my wife can also claim tax benefit being the co-owner and co-borrower ?

Thanks

Can both parties claim tax benefits on joint home loans? Clarification on registration, stamp duty, and EMI payments. A user inquired about tax benefits related to a joint home loan with their spouse as a co-borrower and co-owner. They asked if both parties could separately claim tax benefits for registration and stamp duty. Additionally, they sought clarification on whether their spouse could claim tax benefits, given that the entire EMI is paid from the user's savings account. (AI Summary)
