Duty Refund on import of capital equipments if we export goods manufactured

CABIJENDERKUMAR BANSAL

Dear Sir,

We are going to import some equipment’s from Outside India in Chennai Plating plant:-

  1. Filter (from Japan)
  2. Rectifier (from China)
  3. Heat Pump (from China)

We want to know how we can take refund of duty paid on import of these equipment’s ( as we think there is rule over that if we export 6 times of the duty amount then we can get refund of that).

Pls. provide clarity over that.

No Duty Refund on Imported Capital Equipment; EPCG Scheme Requires Export Obligation Six Times Duty Saved A query was raised regarding the possibility of obtaining a duty refund on the import of capital equipment if goods manufactured using these imports are exported. The equipment includes a filter from Japan and a rectifier and heat pump from China. One response suggested consulting the Foreign Trade Policy. Another explained that under the EPCG scheme, no import duty is paid, but an export obligation of six times the duty saved must be fulfilled within six years, with no refund available under the Customs or GST Act. A third response supported this explanation. (AI Summary)
