invoicing in GSt

mithun saha

In my grocery shop i am using two types of Invoice .. one is ' Invoice ' being used for Taxable products like oil, Sugar, Pasta etc and Bill of supply for non taxable items like Rice cereals salt etc

Is it ok ?

Or it would have been better if i used only one type of ' invoice ' for both taxable item and non taxable item ( nil rate , exempt items)

regards

mithun

Bill of Supply requirement: exempt supplies need a bill of supply while taxable supplies require a tax invoice, can combine. Supplies subject to tax require a tax invoice while exempt or composition supplies must be documented by a bill of supply; suppliers may maintain separate invoice books, and where a single supply includes both taxable and exempt items a consolidated invoice may be issued provided the document contains the requisite particulars for each type of supply. Sir,

According to Section 31 (3) (c) of CGST Act, 2017 "a registered person supplying exempted goods or services or both or paying tax under the provisions of section 10 shall issue, instead of a tax invoice, a bill of supply containing such particulars and in such manner as may be prescribed." For taxable supply you may issue regular invoice under Section 31 (1) of CGST Act, 2017.

KASTURI SETHI on Sep 15, 2017

Tax invoice is meant for supply of taxable supply and Bill of Supply for exempted supply. Both invoice books separately can be maintained.

Himansu Sekhar on Sep 15, 2017

If you supply to a customer, both exempted and taxable supply, one invoice can be issued. There is no need to issue invoice for taxable supply and bill of supply for exempted.board has issued clarifications.

KASTURI SETHI on Sep 16, 2017

Separate invoices are convenient for both i.e. the department and assessees. You cannot be penalised for maintaining two separate invoices. It has been seen that when the department is dragged to the court, the departments backs out from FAQ/Tweets and clarifications. So always go by the Act and read word for word and take care of commas, semi colons, hyphens, flash etc.

DR.MARIAPPAN GOVINDARAJAN on Sep 16, 2017

It is advisable to issue both type of invoice and bill of supply if your transaction is heavy.

I fully agree with Sri Kasturi Sir.
