Is the earning from Freelancer.com eligible for GST or Service Tax?

Pankaj Garg

I am a freelancer in a Australia based website called freelancer.com. Freelancer.com is about getting IT work done or developing websites/softwares. Finally, whatever we earn will be received in local bank in India.

Question: Am I eligible for GST or Service Tax or not?

Freelancer's GST Registration Not Required for Turnover Under 20 Lakhs, Export of Services May Affect Exemption Status. A freelancer using Freelancer.com inquired about the applicability of GST or Service Tax on earnings received in India. With an expected turnover of around 5 lakhs INR for 2017-18, the individual was informed that the basic threshold for GST registration is 20 lakhs INR, or 10 lakhs INR in special states. Therefore, registration under GST is not required. However, since the earnings involve export of services, the exemption from registration may not apply. (AI Summary)
