Income tax for foreign income for less than 183 days

Guest

Hi

I want to know how do I fill my taxes for the year 2015-16, my case is -

1. Worked in India 1 Apr'15 - 31 Dec'15 ( I fall in 30% bracket for this income)

2. Worked in Singapore 10 Jan'16 - 8 April'2016 . I paid taxes in Singapore at 15% and brought the rest of the money to India

Could you pls tell now -

1. How do I show my Singapore income in Indian Tax filing

2. Do I need to pay tax on Singapore money that I brought to India after tax deduction? If yes, how much and which section of Taxation shall I put?

Desperately looking for some concrete resolution as Tax filfing date is only 2 weeks away.

Many Thanks

Preeti

Foreign income taxation: reporting and potential additional Indian tax depends on residential status and DTAA applicability. Taxpayer earned employment income in India and in Singapore, paid tax in Singapore and repatriated the post tax proceeds to India. The principal issues are how to show the Singapore income in the Indian return and whether additional Indian tax is payable; resolution depends on the taxpayer's residential status, the applicability of a double taxation agreement (DTAA), and domestic exemptions or tax credit provisions, so professional tax advice is recommended. Ms. I would strongly suggest you to consult a pracitising CA or a IT consultant of your contact or from this Forum. This is because a close study is required to determine the applicability of rules related to Residential Status, DTAA, Exemption etc. Thanks.
