when is the due date for payment of excise if due date falls on public holiday.

Ramakrishnan Seshadri

Dear Sir,

We are paying the excise duty and service tax through epayment. This month continuously the banks were closed and difficult to pay the duty on due date which falls on monday a public holiday.

I kindly request someone to guide me whether we can pay the excise duty and service tax on 7th the next working day.

If we pay on 7th whether the department will object and request us to pay interest for the delayed one day.

Awaiting reply.

Regards,

S.Ramakrishnan.

Excise Duty Payment Due on Holiday: Pay Online to Avoid Interest or Use Bank Services on October 4th. A user inquired about the due date for excise duty payment when it falls on a public holiday, expressing concern about potential interest charges for a one-day delay. One respondent noted that traditionally, payments could be made on the next working day if the due date was a holiday, but with e-payment systems, this leniency might not apply, and the department could object. Another respondent advised that since online payments are possible, the closure of banks should not affect payment, suggesting paying on the 7th with interest or utilizing bank operations on October 4th.
