i have started Export/Import business in ahmedabad(Guj), i want know that as a exporter VAT/CST number is compulsory for Export or not?

in which area it is useful?

Dear Nikunj,

It is mandatory for an export to get registration under VAT/CST under the State VAT/CST regulation. Please check Section 21 and 22 of Gujarat VAT Act and CST Act also check the Chapter III of the Gujarat VAT Rules in this regard. On export there is no VAT/CST. Therefore, if you are registered, then, you can claim this benefit otherwise you may be penalized for not getting the registration certificate and filing the prescribed returns etc.

Yes, and VAT/CST registration also required for purpose of H Form and for submission to various authorities.
