When an excise return is to be filed and what is due datesecondly, what is payment due date

Generally, Excise Returns are required to be filed online by the 10th of every month. Excise duty is required to be deposited online by the 8:00 p.m. by 6th of every month.

As per Rule 8 of the central excise rules, 2002 the duty on the goods removed from the factory or warehouse shall be paid on the following dates:

1. By the 6^th day of the following for each month (except for the month of March) - for all assesses excluding SSI units who are availing SSI exemption.

2. By the 6^th day of the following month from the end of quarter - for the units availing SSI exemption.

3. By 31^st day of March for the month of March/Quarter ended March - for all assesses including SSI.

For the month of March/quarter ended in March, Service Tax and Excise Duty would be deposited by 31st March itself.
