Sir,

Our house is in the name of my wife . Can I get the House Rent Rebate of Income for Rent paid to my wife?

This is my personal opinion- Since no mention is made in the Act, the spouse can also be treated as separate - individual, if spouse is also assessed to tax and is having income ,  the rental income can be shown in the it return with all provisions for deduction u/s 24 like municipal taxes, 30 percent SD etc. it also increases credit worthiness of the spouse. but please make sure that the spouse income is assessed to tax properly and keep all documents to satisfy the officer. It is pure tax management. Still some one may throw more light on this.
