Salaried Individual Faces Interest on Balance Tax Due to Insufficient TDS as per Sections 234B and 234C. A salaried individual discovered a shortfall in their Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) by their employer, resulting in a balance tax payable. They inquired about the applicability and rate of interest on this balance. A Chartered Accountant responded, explaining that if the TDS is less than 90% of the total tax liability and the liability exceeds 10,000, interest under sections 234B and 234C would apply.
