<h1>Finance Ministry Revises Central Excise Officer Powers; Superintendents Can Adjudicate Up to Rs. 1 Lakh, Excluding Key Issues.</h1> The circular from the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, revises the adjudication powers of Central Excise Officers. Superintendents are now authorized to adjudicate cases involving duty up to Rs. 1 Lakh, excluding issues related to duty rate, valuation, and extended limitation periods. Assistant and Deputy Commissioners' adjudication limit is revised to Rs. 5 Lakh, except where Superintendents are empowered. The circular outlines specific conditions under which Superintendents can adjudicate, including cases involving CENVAT credit and certain penalties. Jurisdictional Commissioners must redistribute pending cases accordingly, with compliance reports due by June 1, 2010.
