New Guidelines Prohibit Compulsory Land Acquisition for SEZs; BoA Won't Approve Post-April 5, 2007 Cases.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued guidelines regarding land acquisition for Special Economic Zones (SEZs). State Governments are prohibited from compulsory land acquisition for SEZs, and the Board of Approval (BoA) will not approve SEZs involving such acquisitions after April 5, 2007. Exceptions include cases where all interested parties have not objected or have withdrawn their objections. In regions with specific land ownership regulations, designated Developmental agencies may lease land to SEZ developers according to approved master plans. These instructions are directed to all Chief Secretaries for compliance.
