Standard Unit Quantity Codes Required in Trade Declarations from August 2020; Temporary Relaxation Ends October 30, 2020.
The Trade Notice addresses the standardization of Unit Quantity Codes (UQCs) in import and export declarations to improve data quality. Effective from August 20, 2020, only specified UQCs are permitted in Bills of Entry and Shipping Bills. Exporters faced issues with reward Shipping Bills due to mismatched UQCs in licenses and declarations. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) will issue future licenses with standard UQCs. A temporary relaxation until October 30, 2020, allows filing Shipping Bills with non-standard UQCs, provided standard UQCs are used in item tables. This measure aims to streamline processes and enhance data accuracy.
