India Expands Faceless Assessment in Customs; Delhi, Mumbai Join Bengaluru, Chennai for Streamlined Processing by Jan 2021.
The Government of India is initiating the second phase of the nationwide rollout of Faceless Assessment under the Turant Customs program, effective August 3, 2020. This phase includes the Delhi and Mumbai Customs Zones and extends coverage in Bengaluru and Chennai. The initiative aims to streamline and standardize customs assessments across India by January 2021. Nodal Commissioners have been appointed to oversee the process in designated zones. Additionally, jurisdictional Commissioners of Customs (Appeals) are empowered to handle appeals related to Faceless Assessments, even if assessing officers are located in different zones. Public notices will be issued to facilitate a smooth transition.
