of <h1>Iron and Steel Import Policy Updated: Registration Required Under SIMS for Chapters 72, 73, and 86 of ITC (HS) 2017.</h1> The import policy for specific iron and steel items in Chapters 72, 73, and 86 of the ITC (HS), 2017, Schedule-I has been amended from 'free' to 'free subject to compulsory registration under the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS).' Importers must now submit advance information online and obtain a registration number by paying a fee based on the CIF value. Registrations are valid for 75 days and must be included in the Bill of Entry for customs clearance. The SIMS will be effective from November 1, 2019, with online registration available from September 16, 2019.
