DGFT Ends Physical Printing for EDI Port Authorizations; Electronic Transmission to Customs Server Begins March 1, 2019.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has announced the discontinuation of printing Advance Authorisations and Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) Authorizations on security paper for those issued with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) ports as the port of registration. Effective from March 1, 2019, these authorizations will be transmitted electronically to the Customs server, visible in the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES) for all relevant officers. The process for registration and bond/bank guarantee requirements remains unchanged, but no physical copies are needed. Electronically issued authorizations cannot be used for imports at non-EDI ports, and physical copies will still be issued for non-EDI ports. The procedure for Advance Release Orders (ARO) and invalidations will also be electronically managed.
