DGFT Simplifies IEC Applications: Only Address Proof and Canceled Cheque Required; 5% Checks by Regional Authorities.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has clarified the document requirements for online Importer Exporter Code (IEC) applications, specifying only two necessary documents: address proof and a canceled cheque or bank certificate. Regional Authorities (RAs) must verify these documents during a mandatory 5% check. If discrepancies arise, applicants are given 15 days to correct them, or their IEC may be suspended. Modifications require a standard fee. RAs must report monthly on IEC verifications and outcomes to the Policy - 2 Division and EDI Cell. This directive is approved by the competent authority.
