New Procedure for Duty-Free Imports by EOUs u/r 5: No Prior Approval Needed, Just Estimated Import Details Required.
The circular addresses the procedure for duty-free import by Export Oriented Units (EOUs) under Rule 5 of the Customs (Import of Goods at Concessional Rate of Duty) Rules, 2017. It clarifies that EOUs do not need prior approval from the Jurisdictional Deputy/Assistant Commissioner (DC/AC) of Customs for importing goods duty-free. Instead, they must provide estimated import details to the DC/AC at the importation station. The Jurisdictional DC/AC must scrutinize the information to ensure eligibility under Notification No. 52/2003-Customs and forward it to the importation station for reconciliation. Any discrepancies should be reported for revenue protection.
