Previously, customs duties were paid only through the State Bank of India at Meenambakkam. Now, importers can also use Indian Bank and Corporation Bank for e-payments. The e-payment process involves logging into the ICEGATE portal, selecting unpaid challans, and completing transactions through designated banks. The system aims to reduce transaction costs and expedite customs clearance. The e-payment facility will be available from March 30, 2007, with support from Corporation Bank, Kellys Corner Branch.
