Importers Allowed to Label Small, Sensitive Goods in Bonded Warehouses Due to CFS Space Constraints, Per DGFT Notification RE44/2000.
Importers have faced challenges in labeling small, heat, and dust-sensitive goods in Container Freight Stations (CFSs) before clearance, as required by DGFT Notification RE44/2000. This notification mandates labeling under the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 1977, before customs clearance for home consumption. Due to space constraints in CFSs, importers can now opt to label goods under bond. Importers must ensure warehouse facilities are available for this process. The goods will be labeled in bonded premises, and compliance will be verified before ex-bonding by customs officials, with records kept in both hard copy and electronic systems.
