New Track and Trace Rules for Drug Exports: Barcodes Required at All Packaging Levels per Foreign Trade Policy 2015-20.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has amended the procedure for implementing the Track and Trace system for exporting drug formulations, as outlined in the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-20. Manufacturers or exporters must print barcodes at primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging levels using the GS1 Global Standard. The data must be maintained in a parent-child relationship and uploaded to a central government portal before distribution. Exceptions apply for drugs manufactured before October 1, 2015, and for exports to countries with specific barcode requirements. The new rules take effect from October 1, 2015, superseding earlier notices.
