Income Tax Board Prioritizes Search Operations on Cases with Over Rs. 1 Crore Unaccounted Income; Guidelines Issued
The circular issued by the Income Tax Board instructs Director Generals of Income-tax (Investigation) to focus search and seizure operations on cases with credible evidence of substantial unaccounted income or assets, particularly when concealment exceeds Rs. 1 crore. Searches are also warranted in cases involving public harm, terrorism, and other serious offenses. Professionals should not be searched without compelling evidence of tax evasion. Authorization for searches must come from the concerned DGIT (Inv.), who is responsible for timely completion of related tasks within 60 days. Officers in the Investigation Wing should possess competence and integrity and will receive specialized training. Compliance with these guidelines is mandatory.
