CSLalit Rajput
India's 2022 Battery Waste Management Rules Introduce EPR, Ban Landfills, and Promote Circular Economy for Batteries The Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, introduced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in India, aim to ensure eco-friendly management of waste batteries. These rules replace the 2001 regulations and cover electric vehicle, portable, automotive, and industrial batteries. They emphasize Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), requiring producers to collect, recycle, or refurbish waste batteries and use recovered materials in new ones. The rules prohibit landfill disposal and incineration, promote a circular economy, and mandate online registration and reporting. Environmental compensation is imposed for non-compliance, with funds used for waste battery management. (AI Summary)
