Amendment to Section 25 mandates Aadhaar authentication for GST registration; non-compliance results in invalid registration. Effective Jan 1, 2020.
Section 25 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act has been amended to include new requirements for Aadhaar authentication. Registered persons must authenticate or provide proof of Aadhaar possession, or an alternative identification method if Aadhaar is unavailable. Failure to comply results in invalid registration. From the notification date, individuals and entities must also authenticate or provide Aadhaar proof for registration eligibility. Exceptions to these requirements may be specified by the government. These changes, effective from January 1, 2020, aim to streamline identification processes in the GST framework.
