Settlement Commission Benches Operate with Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Members Under Specific Rules
The Settlement Commission's jurisdiction and powers are exercisable by Benches, each presided over by the Chairman or a Vice-Chairman with two other Members. The principal Bench is chaired by the Chairman, while others are additional Benches. The Chairman may authorize Members to perform functions across Benches. If a Bench member is unable to serve due to absence, illness, or vacancy, the remaining two members may continue, with the senior acting as Presiding Officer if the original is absent. Cases may be referred to the Chairman for transfer to a three-member Bench if deemed necessary. The Chairman may also constitute a Special Bench with more than three Members for specific cases. The Central Government specifies the sitting locations of principal and additional Benches, while the Chairman fixes the Special Bench's location.
