<h1>Foreign Exchange Management Deposit Regulations 2000 define NRI accounts and overseas corporate body ownership criteria</h1> The Foreign Exchange Management (Deposit) Regulations, 2000 establish definitions for key terms under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999. The regulations define authorized banks and dealers, various non-resident account types including NRE, NRO, FCNR(B), NRNR, and NRSR accounts. Non-Resident Indians are defined as persons resident outside India who are Indian citizens or of Indian origin. Person of Indian Origin includes citizens of countries other than Bangladesh or Pakistan who previously held Indian passports or have Indian ancestry. The regulations also define Overseas Corporate Bodies as entities with at least sixty percent ownership by Non-Resident Indians and establish criteria for Qualified Foreign Investors based on FATF compliance and regulatory requirements.
