    <title>2025 (12) TMI 954 - CUSTOMS AUTHORITY FOR ADVANCE RULINGS, MUMBAI</title>
    <link>https://www.taxtmi.com/caselaws?id=783414</link>
<description>The AAR held that the imported pre-plated steel chassis, covers, backing plates, insulators and shrouds, specifically designed and engineered to house PCBAs and provide EMI/RFI shielding, thermal management, structural protection and light guidance for data center switches, are classifiable as parts of communication apparatus under CTH 8517, more precisely CTI 8517 7990. Applying Note 1 to Section XVI, the authority rejected their treatment as general metal articles and classified them by their specialized function and intended use with Wi-Fi receiver/data center switching equipment. Consequently, the goods qualify for the concessional basic customs duty under Sl. Nos. 5(a) and 5(b) of Notification No. 57/2017-Cus., as no additional conditions beyond correct tariff classification are prescribed.</description>
