    <title>2023 (6) TMI 892 - HIMACHAL PRADESH HIGH COURT</title>
    <link>https://www.taxtmi.com/caselaws?id=439318</link>
<description>An offence under the Negotiable Instruments law may be compounded after conviction where the parties have genuinely settled the dispute and the complainant has received the agreed amount without objection. The High Court&#039;s inherent power may also be used to accept such compromise and secure the ends of justice, even after withdrawal of an earlier Special Leave Petition, because a subsequent settlement in a private, non-heinous matter does not by itself create a bar to quashing. On that basis, the proceedings, conviction, and sentence were quashed and the accused stood acquitted.</description>
