    <title>2014 (7) TMI 1345 - Supreme Court</title>
    <link>https://www.taxtmi.com/caselaws?id=296110</link>
<description>A compromise in a matrimonial dispute could not quash an already recorded conviction for non-compoundable offences under Section 498A IPC and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, as Section 320 CrPC bars compounding of such offences. The conviction was therefore maintained. However, because Section 498A prescribes no minimum sentence and the proviso to Section 4 permits a lesser term for adequate or special reasons, the genuine settlement, compensation, lapse of time, and overall circumstances justified reduction of the substantive sentence to the period already undergone, subject to payment of compensation.</description>
