Government Amends Rice Export Policy: Basmati Requires Certification and FOB Price; Non-Basmati Needs Minimum FOB Price to Export
The Central Government has amended the export policy for Basmati and non-basmati rice under the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-2009. Basmati rice exports are now free but require pre-shipment quality certification for exports to the Russian Federation and must meet a minimum FOB price of US $1100 per ton or Rs.44,000 per ton. Non-basmati rice exports are exempt from prohibition if the minimum FOB price is US $1000 per ton or Rs.40,000 per ton. Transitional arrangements under Para 1.5 of the Foreign Trade Policy are not applicable to this ban, but Para 9.12 of the Handbook of Procedures is applicable.
