India Updates Rice Export Rules: Only Pre-Ban Shipments Allowed; Specific Exceptions for West Bengal Consignments Under Para 2B.
The Government of India has amended Notification No. 38(RE-2007)/2004-2009 concerning the prohibition on the export of Basmati and non-basmati rice. The amendment modifies Para 2B to allow only the quantities being loaded onto ships at the time of the ban to be exported under transitional arrangements. Additionally, rice consignments certified by Customs Authorities and accepted for export by midnight on March 6, 2008, at Land Customs Stations in West Bengal, are permitted for export. Other transitional arrangements under the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-2009, are not applicable for these restrictions. This amendment is issued in the public interest.
