of <h1>Government Amends Excise Notifications to Limit Exemptions for Certain Peripheral Activities in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand</h1> The Central Government has amended Notifications No. 49/2003 and No. 50/2003-Central Excise, dated 10th June 2003, to partially lift excise exemptions for units engaged in peripheral activities in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The amendments specify that the exemptions will not apply to goods subjected only to processes like preservation during storage, cleaning, packing, labeling, sorting, or price alteration without further manufacturing processes. Additionally, the term 'Uttranchal' is updated to 'Uttarakhand' in both notifications. These changes are enacted in the public interest under the Central Excise Act, 1944.
