of <h1>Central Government Appoints Chief Commissioner for Chennai under Section 117 of Income-tax Act, 1961</h1> The Central Government has appointed the Chief Commissioner of the Large Taxpayer Unit in Chennai to exercise the jurisdiction of the Chief Commissioner of Income-tax as an Income Tax Authority. This appointment is made under the powers conferred by sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 117 of the Income-tax Act, 1961. The headquarters for this jurisdiction will be in Chennai. The notification, identified as No. 283/2007 and dated November 30, 2007, will be effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
