<h1>Notification No. 39/2002 exempts goods in SEZs from excise duty with conditions; rescinded by Notification No. 59/2003.</h1> Notification No. 39/2002-Central Excise, dated August 13, 2002, exempts excisable goods brought into special economic zones (SEZs) for development, operation, and maintenance from excise duty, subject to conditions. These include obtaining permission from the Development Commissioner, authorization from a Customs Committee, storage in licensed warehouses, maintaining proper accounts, and submitting quarterly statements. Goods cannot be removed from SEZs without permission and duty payment. Developers must execute a bond to use goods within six months or pay applicable duty with interest. This notification was rescinded by Notification No. 59/2003-CE on July 22, 2003.
