Government Amends Import Rules: New Appendix Limits Chemical Imports to State Parties of Chemical Weapons Convention
The Central Government, under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, has amended the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 1997-2002. A new Appendix IV to Schedule I has been introduced, detailing chemicals whose import is allowed only from State parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention. This includes specific chemicals such as Amiton, PFIB, BZ, and others containing phosphorus atoms with certain groups. Exemptions apply to specific chemicals like Fonofos and N,N-Dimethylaminoethanol. These amendments are issued in the public interest and are effective immediately.
