<h1>Cotton Imports Now Classified as 'Free' Under Amended Policy; Registration Required for Contracts Before March 31, 2001</h1> The Central Government, under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, has amended Notification No. 41(RE-99)/97-02 concerning the import of cotton. Effective immediately, cotton imports, whether carded or combed, are classified as 'Free' under the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002. However, all import contracts for cotton to be executed by March 31, 2001, must be registered with the Textile Commissioner in Mumbai before importation. This amendment is issued in the public interest and is signed by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
