India Amends Export Policy: E.I. Tanned Hides Freely Exportable; Others Restricted, Require License Under Notification No. 45 (RE-99)/1997-2002
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce, has issued Notification No. 45 (RE-99)/1997-2002, amending the export policy for hides and skins under the Foreign Trade Policy. Effective from January 13, 2000, the amendment specifies that E.I. tanned hides and skins are now freely exportable, while other categories of semi-processed hides and skins remain restricted and require a license. Exporters must register their export contracts with the Council for Leather Exports, detailing the price and quantity. This change is enacted under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, and is intended to serve the public interest.
