Customs Duty Exemption for Goods from Myanmar Rescinded in 2016; Initially Included Rice, Spices, and More
The notification issued on March 6, 1995, by the Central Government under the Customs Act, 1962, provided an exemption on customs duty for specified goods imported into India from Myanmar. The exemption reduced the duty to 5% ad valorem for goods like rice, pulses, vegetables, spices, and more, provided they were produced in Myanmar and imported through designated land customs stations. The list of exempted goods was expanded in 2010 to include items such as bicycle parts, life-saving drugs, and cosmetics. This notification was rescinded on January 11, 2016.
