of <h1>India Extends Safeguard Duty on Phenol Imports to Protect Domestic Producers; 10% in 2001-2002, 7% in 2002-2003.</h1> The Central Government of India has imposed a safeguard duty on the import of Phenol to protect domestic producers from increased imports causing potential injury. Initially imposed in 1999, the duty is extended for two more years following a review. From June 30, 2001, to June 29, 2002, the duty is set at 10%, and from June 30, 2002, to June 29, 2003, at 7%. Exemptions apply to imports under an Advance Licence for export obligations and from certain developing countries, excluding Malaysia, South Africa, and Singapore.
