of <h1>Customs Act: Passengers 18+ Can Import One Laptop Duty-Free as Baggage; Excludes Crew Members. Effective Jan 9, 2004.</h1> The Central Government, under the Customs Act, 1962, exempts one laptop computer (notebook computer) from customs duty when imported into India as baggage by a passenger aged 18 or older, excluding crew members. This exemption applies to laptops classified under tariff item 98030000 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. The notification, identified as No. 11/2004-Customs, takes effect from January 9, 2004.
