of <h1>Government Companies: New Rules for Name Changes Under Companies Act, 1956, Sections 21 & 23</h1> The Central Government, under the Companies Act, 1956, has issued a notification modifying the application of sections 21 and 23 for Government companies. For section 21, a proviso is added stating that changes in a Government company's name, involving only the removal of 'Private,' are exempt. For section 23, a new sub-section (1A) mandates that such name changes be reported to the Registrar within three months, who will then update the register and the company's certificate of incorporation by removing 'Private' before 'Limited.' This notification was presented in draft form to both Houses of Parliament.
