New Rules Impose Additional Duties on Imported Computer Sets, Exempting Separately Imported Accessories Under Customs Tariff Act, 1975.
The Computers (Additional Duty) Rules, 2004, enacted by the Central Government, impose an additional customs duty on certain computer components imported into India. Effective from its publication date, the rules specify a 6% ad valorem duty on central processing units (CPUs) and a 7% ad valorem duty on CPUs imported as a set with a monitor, mouse, and keyboard. However, this duty does not apply to CPUs or accessories such as monitors, keyboards, mice, modems, uninterrupted power supply systems, or web cameras when imported separately. These rules are established under the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.
