India Bans Export of Dairy Products Under Foreign Trade Act; Immediate Effect, Excludes Pre-Feb 18, 2011 Consignments
The Government of India has issued a notification prohibiting the export of certain dairy products, including milk powders (such as skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, dairy whitener, and infant milk foods), as well as casein and casein products. This prohibition is enacted under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and is effective immediately. The restriction is reflected in the amendments to the Schedule 2 of the ITC(HS) Classification of Export & Import Items. However, consignments handed over to customs before February 18, 2011, are exempt from this prohibition.
