India Exempts Solar Power Project Machinery from Customs Duties Over 5% in 2011; Rescinded in 2021.

The Government of India, through Notification No. 1/2011-Customs dated January 6, 2011, exempted all machinery and related equipment required for the initial setup of solar power generation projects from customs duties exceeding 5% ad valorem. This exemption was contingent upon the importer providing a certificate from a designated government officer confirming the necessity of the goods for the project and an undertaking to use the goods as specified. This notification superseded a previous one from 2010 and was later rescinded by Notification No. 07/2021-Customs effective February 2, 2021.
