Mandatory quality standards impose BIS certification requirement for galvanized steel sheet imports under a Foreign Trade Policy amendment. The Central Government amends Schedule 1 (Imports) of the ITC(HS) classifications under the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-2014 to add IS 277 for galvanized steel sheets (plain and corrugated) to Appendix III, thereby making the applicable BIS standard mandatory for import of that product.
